Sauvignon 2022, Alto Adige DOC, Cantina Tramin winery, Italy

Another very pleasant example of the Italian wine region Alto Adige. Evening sitting with a glass of wine in a friendly debate, as well as an addition to baked salmon – these are just two of the many possibilities when this wine is an excellent choice. I recommend it.

Sauvignon 2022, Alto Adige DOC, from the Cantina Tramin winery, is a typical manifestation of the mountain viticulture of northern Italy. The Alto Adige region (Südtirol) is one of the coldest wine-growing regions in the country, where significant daily temperature differences support aromatic purity and fresh acidity. Sauvignon finds ideal conditions in this area – mineral soils, altitude, cool nights and plenty of warm sunny days.

The Sauvignon Blanc variety has its origins in France, specifically in the Loire Valley and Bordeaux, where it has historically established itself as an aromatic variety with typical tones of herbs, gooseberries and citrus. In the Alto Adige conditions, however, it acquires a more precise, mineral character with an emphasis on purity of expression and elegance.

The Cantina Tramin winery is one of the most important cooperative wineries in the region. It was founded in 1898 in the village of Tramin (Termeno), which also gave its name to the aromatic Gewürztraminer variety. Today, it brings together 168 small growers, with quality built on strict grape selection and modern technological processes. The winery is known for its emphasis on terroir, sustainability and precise work in the vineyard and cellar.

Here is the description of the wine:

A light straw yellow color with greenish reflections, typical of young Sauvignon from cooler regions.

The aroma is clean. The dominant tones are gooseberry, elderberry, citrus peel and subtle herbal nuances (nettle, freshly cut grass). A mineral undertone appears in the background, reflecting the origin of the wine.

The taste of the wine is dry and fresh. Despite being pronounced, the acidity is pleasantly balanced. The flavor profile copies the aromatics – citrus, gooseberry and green apple, complemented by a trace of minerality. The finish is medium-long, clean and refreshing.

Alcohol is 13% vol.

The recommended serving temperature is 8 – 10 °C.

Sauvignon 2022 wine is suitable for light dishes – freshwater fish, seafood, asparagus, goat cheese, vegetable salads. It also pairs well with simple poultry dishes.

Wines from Cantina Tramin regularly receive ratings in international guides such as Gambero Rosso or Falstaff, while Sauvignons from Alto Adige have long been rated as some of the best in Italy.

Sauvignon 2022 from Cantina Tramin is an example of a varietal pure wine with an emphasis on freshness and mineral character. It does not seek complexity in maturation, but in purity of expression and balance. Suitable for lovers of fresh, aromatic white wines who prefer a clearly defined style without unnecessary influences.
